God had gone before me.

Courtney tells the following story having recently returned from a summer College Ministry GTS trip to Thailand and Cambodia.

“I had grown comfortable in Fayetteville speaking of God with peers, and I didn’t think I needed practice outside of that. But standing before someone who can not understand the words I speak without a translator is difficult. It was hard to simplify words to correctly translate The Gospel, to know what to share, and to share it between many people. This loss of control made me feel defeated.

"One of the days in Thailand, we were walking through a small village when we met a mother of two little ones. One of the children had severe disabilities and was unable to walk. In the midst of these difficulties and my struggles, I remembered the words our team leader, Linda Mohlman, had shared the day before from John 5.  In that story, Jesus healed the man at the pool and said, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’

"When I remembered these words, all anxiety left. God had gone before me and allowed me to memorize this story in order to share with this mother. We were able to pray over their home, and our translator was able to share fluently. I walked away letting go of control but reminded of the Lord’s undeniable sovereignty. I trust that He will continue to move even if we are not there to see it.”
